Well, here we are:
Finally, a family photo! We are having actual professional photos done tomorrow... but I think this one is pretty great too! We never had a professional family portrait made after Abbie came home. Even though we feel like our family is still not complete, we want to capture who we are now.
We are still praying about whether to home school next year, or send the kids to public school. I know all the positives and negatives, besides the fact that we will be going back and forth to Shriner's. On top of that, we are also praying about where God wants us as far as full-time ministry goes. All this factors into the school debate. I know God will show us when the time is right~~ He always does!
Eden and Cameron's English is coming at an amazing rate! I was apprehensive when our facilitator in Ukraine told us how quickly the kids would switch languages. Eden now mostly speaks in simple choppy English sentences with the occasional Ukrainian word thrown in. Cameron knows a lot of English, but gets lazy about speaking it. He surprises us sometimes when he uses a word we didn't even realize he had picked up.
We still have our days, and I am not naive to believe that the fits are in any way over, but we have seen a marked improvement. We did realize that the best discipline measure for Eden is to put her favorite toys in time-out.
We have been using a great website called Starfall.com for our home school this year. The kids have picked up a lot of language and letter recognition from it. We also are going through preschool workbooks together. Even though all three kids are technically past that, it has been a good way to pick up simple English and our alphabet. We plan to continue to work occasionally through the summer.
Both Eden and Cameron have their evaluations at Shriner's at the end of this month. We are excited to see what the future holds for their treatment, and we feel so blessed to be able to receive care there!
Sorry it's been a while since I have written. I actually tried last week and my post got deleted before I could post it. :( I'll be sure to add our new photos when we get them!

YAY!!! I've been waiting to hear how you ALL have been doing. So GOOD to "see" you all together. No one ever said raising children (no matter how the Lord blesses you with them) would be easy ... and if someone did ... I'm convinced that that someone doesn't have any of their own! Hang in there. I never thought of putting the toys in "time out" ... but then again, I guess I may have done that before ... just didn't call it that. Praying your trip to Shriner's goes well. Oh, as for the schooling... keep in mind, home schooling can go anywhere you go and at the pace you think each individual child needs. If they have to go slower than their schoolmates and get "held back", it might not help things. And if they need to go faster, they may get bored. Homeschooling helps you really KNOW what they need. Oh well, that's my 2 cents for what it's worth. Praying for you. ~Grace
ReplyDeleteThanks, Grace I completely agree on the school issue. Just waiting on my "other half". ;)
